After 14 years working for a well-known company, Smart Enterprise, the last five being a general manager, Carlos Mendez had a wake-up call. Randal Smart, owner of the company, passed away in July 2010. Not wanting the company anymore, Randall's wife decided to ask Carlos if he would like to buy the custom metal fabrication company. Being with Smarts for such a long time, he just couldn't walk away from the opportunity without thinking it over. After long thought and a few negotiations, he and his wife, Teresa Mendez, decided to take a leap of faith. The Mendezes had been working with Len Erickson, St George Small Business Development Center director, on getting a loan for opportunity capital. After Smart Enterprise shut down, they were discouraged but were determined to find a way to make the business work.
While Carlos and Teresa worked to get a contractor's license, business license, set up an LLC, and create a company checking account, the 12 employees of Smart kept working. Many of the vendors let the Mendezes get products on credit. Launching the new business under the name of New Horizon Siding and Roofing, later to be known now as New Horizon Siding and Awning. Most customers were patient and stuck with Carlos rather than moving to the competition. Of course with the growth of the community came the growth of the company. Thankfully their two sons Jason and Jordan, who have been working for the company with a combined 10 years of experience in the field, agreed to step up and take on a managerial role to help with the increase of business
In March 2022 Carlos, Jason, and Jordan decided on taking business coaching courses with the top business coaching program in the world. Madison Nix with Action Coach showed them how to manage their businesss more efficiently with the customer-first mindset. Today, Carlos and Teresa are very thankful and blessed for how everything turned out. With the help of their two sons, they couldn't be happier with their employees and all the customers. Nothing makes us happier than making sure the customer is satisfied at all times. With a personal understanding of the business, New Horizon Siding & Awnings is separated from the rest with good work ethics and the understanding that the customer is most important.
